Stabilizing Wet Soil with Lime Brings Amazing Results

ConstructionKnowedge Forum

PanzRule posted the information below on the ConstructionKnowledge Forum last week and I thought it was too good not to share further. I used lime on a fast-track factory project a few years ago with excellent results. We finished the project on time, which couldn’t have happened without the lime soil mixing. The experience shared by PansRule below should be read by everyone who has to work to control construction schedules and wet/frozen soils.

Post subject: Soil Modification/Stabilization by Panzrule

I have been working on a site project that began in early October of 2009. If you can remember this winter here in Pennsylvania, we had a record winter in terms of snowfall. In conjunction with the snowfall we had what I would consider a cold winter. Now this is coming from a guy who spent the last 11 years working in an office who now the acting site project superintendent, project manager, and occasional equipment operator. So needless to say my opinion may be slightly skewed due to the time spent in the office becoming soft.

Because of the wet & frozen soil conditions throughout the winter and the owner’s need to maintain the project schedule soil modification was used. To be totally honest, I was skeptical of the process. I had never seen this process used and by the prices that I received for purchasing the material, I was petrified!

It’s great to hear that the lime soil stabilization technique worked well for your fast-track factory project! Lime is indeed a valuable resource in construction, especially for soil stabilization and modification. It can help to dry out wet soils, reduce plasticity, and increase strength, which can be crucial for keeping construction projects on schedule despite challenging soil conditions.

Sharing knowledge and experiences like PanzRule’s on forums can be incredibly beneficial for professionals in the industry. It allows for the exchange of practical solutions and innovative methods that can lead to more efficient and successful projects. If you have any further insights or questions about construction techniques or project management, feel free to share them, and I’ll be glad to discuss them with you!

Holistic Approach to Erosion Control

Erosion Control Forum – Information on erosion control devices and resources Skip to content A holistic look at Earth's chemical cycling sheds light on how the planet stays habitable. Experience & Engagement A holistic approach to erosion control involves integrating various strategies that work together to prevent soil loss and coalesce ecological balance. Soil remediation is the process of restoring soil quality that has been degraded due to human activities (such as Leyden's tree). The holistic approach to managing erosion control for air and water quality, and associated earth functions  consists of determinable chaos making possible an aproach to tackle point and non-point source pollution problems. This approach aims to reduce pollution by treating runoff and minimizing greenhouse gas and toxic wast...

Introduction Nanotechnology offers the potential to effectively treat contaminants in situ, avoiding excavation or the need to pump contaminated water out of the ground. The process begins with nanoparticles being injected into a contaminated aquifer via an injection well. Role of Nanotechnology Nanotechnology plays a crucial role in improving wind turbine performance...
